Forest service nursery gets an upgrade

Contributed by
Dan Wand
Colorado State Forest Service
Durango District

It was the bane of their existence: a 50-year-old conveyor belt at the Colorado State Forest Service Nursery, used to transport hundreds of thousands of seedlings throughout 18,000 square feet of greenhouses. Crucial to the nursery’s day-to-day operations, the conveyor – like any mechanical equipment showing its age – kept breaking. And breaking.

Call to Action

from Nick Smith, healthy Forests, Healthy Communities
and Steve Goodroad, Larimer county Tree Farmer

The Forest Service needs to hear from the local community and concerned stakeholders throughout Colorado that forest treatments such as those proposed in the Sulphur TSI project are not only necessary, but also extremely critical to protecting our valuable resources.  Many times, the Forest Service only hears from those who DON'T support the project, making them the squeaky wheel that gets the oil.

Don't let those who oppose the project be in the only voice in the room.  Learn more about the Project.  And if you agree this is a critical effort to improve overall forest health and vigor, improve vegetation conditions suitable for Canada lynx and reduce hazardous fuels, please send an urgent message to the Forest Service before the formal 30-day comment period expires on May 5th, 2017.

and just for fun

Spiders theoretically could eat every human
on Earth in one year

By Christopher Ingraham, The Washington Post

Spiders are quite literally all around us. A recent entomological survey of North Carolina homes turned up spiders in 100 percent of them, including 68 percent of bathrooms and more than three-quarters of bedrooms. There’s a good chance at least one spider is staring at you right now, sizing you up from a darkened corner of the room, eight eyes glistening in the shadows.
